Just what the doctor ordered!

Last Saturday night I had my first actual ‘outing’ since my surgery on December 19th and although I’m still recovering it was just what I needed.  For the first time ever I attended a Patriots football game here in New England.

I have always been a big football fan but never had the opportunity to watch them play while I lived here. My first time seeing them play was in Miami vs the Dolphins which was fun and quite a bit warmer. I went to the game with my aunt Carol and two of her friends. I had been saying for weeks that I wanted to do something which made me feel somewhat normal and this was just the thing.

I of course own nothing for the temperatures that we were about to endure at a night game in New England in January so I had to raid the closets of my aunt and stepmother. By the time I was dressed to go I literally looked like I was going skiing and I felt like I could hardly move but I knew I would be warm.

I was so excited but I never stopped to think about how tired I would be or that this would be the first time I was out for this long in about a month. I guess I was just too excited about watching the Pats beat Denver. The walk from the car to the stadium gave me a great preview of what’s next few hours would be like…and I can describe it in one word FREEZING!

The game however was amazing… the Pats scored the first touchdown in about two minutes and set the tone for the rest of the game. It was clear Brady was in the zone…and 6 TDs later the game was over and the Patriots were headed to the AFC Championship.

We got home about 3am and of course I spent the entire next day recovering from the cold and excitement. I wouldn’t trade it for anythig however because for the first time I was out of the house and not thinking about cancer. I had a few hours free of the disease, the treatments,  or even the thoughts of sickness…one thing I couldn’t forget was that I wasn’t in Miami but it didn’t even bother me since I was watching my team play.

After the weekend it was back to the normal daily routine of treatments at the Sante Center  but the little break on Saturday night helped so much. I felt normal for the first time in what seems like forever and that helped me refocus my energy on healing and getting back to 100% so I can get back home to Miami.

Funny that spending a few hours in the 30 degrees (but felt like 19 degrees) helped remind me that the sooner I’m better the sooner I can get back to the palm trees, sunshine and the HEAT.

Today I will be tuned in to watch them once again from the comfort of the couch…GO PATS…..

Tricia and I were simply so excited for you we could barely contain ourselves. Aunt Carol wanted this for you sooooo much too. Yes to be out of your elements for 3 hours was a great gift and just what you needed to get back “in the game.” Take one from the Patriots playbook, never never never give up. You will certainly beat this and set not only yourself free but many other women. Jessica you rock and inspire me as you have since you were born. God bless you and Debby too!
